Trizonal structure of Circodiscus Kozlova Richard N. Benson (06/11/2003) |
Benson (1966) did not recognize the trizonal (pylonid) structure of the inner (first) ellipsoidal ring surrounding the inner shell of this species, the type species of Circodiscus Kozlova, as described for the genus by Kozlova (1972, Initial Reports, DSDP, Leg 14, p. 526). Because the presence of a pylome is not a consistent feature of the tests from the Gulf of California (see Benson, 1966, pl. 9, fig. 8), this species should not be placed in the genus Ommatodiscus Stöhr. |
