Description - Add description

Clathromitra pentacantha
Cephalis large, hemispherical, half as long as the three-sided pyramidal thorax; both with irregular, roundish meshes. Apical horn of about the same length as the frontal horn, and twice as long as the three basal feet, All five spines three-sided prismatic, with denticulated edges. Three lateral wings about as broad as the cephalis.
Dimensions.-Cephalis 0.04 long, 0.08 broad; thorax 0.1 long, 0.2 broad.
Habitat.-Central Pacific, Station 268, depth 2900 fathoms.

Clathromitra pentacantha
Material: 5 skeletons from the surface layer of the sediment at 2 stations ("Obj", 249, 271).
Diagnosis. Clathromitra with quadrangular pores. The outer extentions of spines D, Lr, LI and A are connected with the wall of the shell by porous plates. There are no well expressed crests on the surface of the shell.
Measurements. Length of basic spines inside the shell approximately 0.08 mm, outer apophyses 0.10-0.15 mm (spine A is of the same length as the other ones); height of shell approximately 0.12 mm, width 0.18-0.20 mm.
Distribution. Central part of the Pacific Ocean, southern part of the Indian Ocean.
Taxonomic remarks. This species differs from C. pterophormis by the fact that in the latter (fig. 38, I) spine A is more strongly developed than spines D, Lr and LI, whereas on the surface of the shell are complicated crests. In the antarctic sediments of higher latitudes (stations 16, 17 "Obj") we discovered some smaller-sized skeletons, which differ in not having porous plates near spines A, D, Lr and LI (fig. 37, III).
